🙋Job News: Are Tech companies hiring again?...

If you woke up this morning and drank bad coffee that is news. It’s not interesting, but if the coffee is good enough (or bad enough), it might be noteworthy.

The media is here to make everything seem bad and get clicks. That is what a media company is supposed to do. Yes, interest rates are high and tech companies have been doing layoffs but how about some good news? The Deputy has some good news…

A few BIG tech companies are hiring again. Samsara, Salesforce, Monday and more are hiring thousands of people.

At Ramp, we have a new client who is hiring BIG time. Meet LiveView Technologies (LVT) they provide on demand video surveillance to large companies and large construction projects.

LVT needs people with hardware, IoT and software experience and a bonus if you have spent time at a FAANG type company. We are looking for Backend and Frontend engineers, Product leaders and more positions. Our Ramp recruiters are still scoping out the roles but stay tuned…

I am not saying we are out of the woods yet with hiring, but this news is better than more layoff bad news.

"Hey, why don't recruiters give reasons for rejecting candidates?"...

If you have ever looked for a job then chances are you have been left in the dark as to why you didn’t get the job you interviewed for. I am still wondering why I didn’t get that Sales Rep job in Bentonville, Arkansas that I interviewed for in 2003. The company said they liked me but then hired someone else…

There are a few reasons why recruiters don’t give reasons for rejections.

1) The recruiter doesn’t want to argue with the candidate. Too many times the recruiter has told the candidate why they didn’t get the job and it ends up being an argument. “Sorry Barry, the examples you gave on your coding test were stolen from Google and they were also wrong”.

2) There is a legal risk. Give the wrong rejection reason or say it the wrong way and the candidate could have a case for a lawsuit. “Hey, your hairstyle just doesn’t match our culture”.

3) The recruiter is too darn busy. Recruiters tell people “No”, more than they tell people “Yes” and many times recruiters are overworked with too many jobs and too many candidates who they have to say “no” to. Many recruiters do their best and just can’t get to everyone.

For candidates - The Deputy recommends you ask the recruiter for feedback so you can improve. Thank the recruiting and hiring team for their time, wish them luck and let them know you would like some feedback to improve. Many will give you feedback and some still will not (i.e., legal risk). Don’t take it personally and it does take thick skin to hear feedback.

Keep moving forward and don’t dwell on a job you didn’t get. There is something better out there for you.

Why doesn't that recruiter tell me why I was rejected?

Congratulations to "adults" who get more than 7 hours of sleep...

The average person gets less than 7 hours of sleep per night. Don’t be average. Get more sleep. According to the CDC, 1 in 3 U.S. adults regularly don’t get enough sleep.

Some people obsess over sleep and get apps and tracking devices to track their sleep. The Oura Ring (health tracker wrapped around your finger) costs about $300, plus a monthly membership. There are many other sleep and wearable devices too.

A sleep device sounds tiring and expensive but if that’s what it takes to sleep, do it. Sleep is important to your health and awareness.

Don’t stress about not getting enough sleep. Just sleep for 7-8 hours and let your results do the talking.
